The United States Patent and Trademark Office will conduct a free seminar via distance learning on Friday, January 22 in FS2.532 at 9am. This seminar is open to the UTSA community. We offered this seminar last semester and it was very well received, and offered excellent information for anyone interested in filing a patent.

This is a device recommended for use in a hotel or large building in case of fire. What is stated in the patent, is that if you are caught in a building with fire and smoke, and can’t leave, head for the nearest toilet, stick the tube down into the toilet bowl beyond the water trap to “expose an open end thereof to fresh air from a vent pipe connected to a sewer line of the toilet, to enable the user to breathe fresh air through the tube”.
Yes, really, that item was patented; fortunately though it was not produced and distributed.
