In the US, 18% of the children live in poverty. Where are almost 25% of the children living in poverty? (The poverty line is an annual income of $17,600 or less.) And with that statistic, include uninsured.
Bexar County, which includes San Antonio, Texas.
And for the 10th consecutive year, Texas has the highest rate of uninsured children in the nation. We might as well get it all out there. One of the highest teen birth rates in Texas is also here in Bexar County.
With poverty so high, no doubt students passing the TAKS, students living on the street, and student drop-out rate is also worse than ever. 28% of the population who are between the ages of 18 and 24 do NOT have a high school diploma.
