Excellence, with a capital “E”

Lots of books to recommend reading, but one recently I recommended, Switch: How to Change Things When Change Is Hard is right there with Tom Peters new book The Little Big Things: 163 Ways to Pursue EXCELLENCE. They strive for the same things; change in pursuit of being the best. Sometimes it’s ok to be second, just to have participated at all, even if we didn’t win. But it’s not ok to not try and be number 1. And in business? You MUST be number 1. You must be Excellent.

Excellence — and as he declares “Excellence (always capitalized!) is a ‘way of life,’ a ‘way of being’ — not a steady state to be ‘achieved'” Or quoting from Peters’ book:

Excellence can be obtained if you:
…care more than others think is wise;
…risk more than others think is safe;
…dream more than others think is practical;
…expect more than others think is possible.

  1. I agree whole heartedly with doing things in Excellence. I try to live by those standards. I cannot expect to receive in Excellence, if I, myself, am not willing to give or do things in Excellence!! This seems like a good book to check out!!
